Main Applications
Typical applications for Shell Irus Fluids DU include
hydraulic systems for tunnel excavation, metallurgical and
glass industries, and mining. Shell Irus Fluids DU can
replace mineral oils in hydraulic installations to provide
good lubrication together with a higher degree of fire
resistance.

Performance, Characteristics & Benefits
● Lower flammability compared with mineral oils
● Readily biodegradable – >60% biodegraded after
28 days when tested per OECD 301B (CO2
evolution test)
● Low ecotoxicity – “not harmful” to plants (algae),
invertebrates (daphnia sp) and fish; EL50/LL50 >
100 mg/l when tested as “water accommodated”
fractions per OECD 201, OECD 202 and OECD 203
● Excellent viscosity / temperature characteristics –
minimal viscosity change with operating
temperature, with true “multi-grade”
characteristics
● Pump anti-wear protection equal to that of a
mineral hydraulic oil
● Low flammability maintained throughout the
fluid’s service life
● Excellent corrosion protection
● Compatible with most materials used specifically
with mineral oils
